WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PRINCIPLES

As Vestel Group of Companies, we adopt the understanding of the equality of women and men in every field and support all activities related with the empowerment of women in social, business and economic life. We believe that innovative ideas come to light by cooperation of intelligence and talents of individuals and we reinforce our corporate policies with practices that promote gender equality.

We see Women’s Empowerment Principles of United Nations, of which we are pleased to be a party, as an indication of our commitment to the empowerment of women in all sectors and at all levels in the economic life. Women’s Empowerment Principles established in cooperation with the UN Global Compact and UN Women in 2010 involve the following headings:

  • Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality,
  • Treat all women and men fairly at work, respect and support human rights and non-discrimination,
  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all female and male employees,
  • Promote education, training and professional development for women,
  • Adopt enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women,
  • Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy,
  • Measure and publicly report the progress to achieve gender equality.

With the aim of supporting women’s employment Vestel started the Women’s Technician Training Project at Vestel City in 2019. Voluntary female technician candidates receive technical training provided by the Service Academy instructors in workshops. They complete the training of approximately 2 weeks in the cooling, cooking and washing product groups. At the end of the applied training, application examinations are carried out, and those who successfully pass the examinations begin their duties as technicians. In 2019, 25 female technicians began actively working in the field. Efforts are continuing to increase the number of female technicians and for sustainable services. The training sessions, which are currently solely provided for employees working in Vestel’s authorized service providers, are planned to include women applying to work at Vestel in the coming period.
